A warm welcome for the start of the 2020 school year. It was lovely to walk around the yard on Tuesday morning to hear about students’ holidays and see them catching up with their friends.
We would like to congratulate all of our 2019 Year 12 students on their achievements, and to Sophie Crouch on being the DUX of 2019. We have heard from a few of the students from last year to let us know what they are planning to do this year. Our students have been accepted into a range of courses including Psychology (Advanced) (Honours), International Business, Social Work, Arts, Psychological Science, Nursing and Media Arts. Many have also started full time apprenticeships and work which is very exciting.
Welcome to all of our new students including the Year 8’s who undertook transition last year. In addition we welcome Amelia, Jackson, Ethan, Mackenzie and Tia. Nicola Wright, Josh Palmer, Leon Hams, Kelly Pedler and Angela Spiteri (Canteen Manager) have also joined our staff this year. We thank Emma Paparella for her work over the last 3 years and wish her all the best in her new employ.
This week will see House Captains elected in preparation for Swimming Carnival and Athletics Day this term. Towards the end of last year our Student Leaders raised the idea of changing our swimming carnival to a day event rather than a twilight event. We encourage parents and community members to attend and indeed rely on the support of families for official roles and to help with the Year 9 BBQ fundraiser. It is therefore crucial we are aware of your opinion with regards to the timing of the event. We have created a Facebook poll and we invite you to respond to that or to send an SMS, email or call the school to let us know your preference. We will make a decision based on the responses from students, parents and our feeder schools by the end of Friday this week.
You are all invited to the Dux and Student Leader and House Captain Assembly next Friday 7thFebruary at 9.50am in the School Hall.
Hi my name is Kelly Pedler,
I am excited to be working at Gladstone High School in the Front Office and classroom support. This will be a new challenge for me and I look forward to doing my best and meeting new faces this year. My family and I have recently moved to Crystal Brook from Whyalla where we have lived for the past 12 years. I have 3 boys two are of school age and they go to CBPS and GHS and my eldest lives in Adelaide. We as a family love camping and exploring new things and being that bit closer to Adelaide is an added bonus.
Hi, my name is Nicola Wright.
I am the new Agriculture teacher at Gladstone High School and I will be teaching Years 8 to 12. I was raised on a sheep station on the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula and have completed my Bachelor of Agricultural Science and Masters in Teaching at the University of Adelaide. This is my second teaching position, but the first in my teaching area of Agriculture. I look forward to working with both the school, and the wider community to develop an engaging Agricultural program.
Hi my name is Leon Hams
I am the new Ag Farm manager at Gladstone High. I was born and bred in the Jamestown community and have worked all over Sth Australia, New South Wales as a shearer, as well as running my own small farm in Canowie Belt. After retiring from fulltime shearing I was looking for a purpose and fortunately gained employment at Gladstone High School, where I am hoping to have a successful working relationship with Nicola (Ag teacher), students and staff.
