Hopefully everyone had an enjoyable break from the routines of school over the holidays and all students are keen for the last nine weeks of school this year.
Finally, our Year 10’s are headed off to Careers Camp next week after what feels like many delays. Thank you to the staff who have volunteered their time to accompany the students and to Jacqui Edge for organising the places to visit. We also appreciate the various educational institutions and businesses who have offered to take our students for a tour and visit.
After missing out on a Swimming Carnival in term 1 with all of the restrictions that were in place, we have managed to schedule a Swimming Carnival in for 22nd November. More details are provided later in the newsletter. Please mark this one in your calendar and join us for a day at the pool.
We wish all of our Year 12’s all the very best with their last two weeks of scheduled lesson times before many of them have time to study at home for exams or to finish off their last few assessment pieces. For many, this can be a stressful time as the reality of their time at high school finishing sinks in and also awaiting final results.
We currently have a School Support Officer (SSO) – Classroom Support and a Farm Hand vacancy advertised. The Farm Manager is to start as soon as possible and the SSO position starts next year. Please share this around and encourage anybody who might be interested to contact the school for more information.
Thank you to the parent volunteers that have run the canteen Thursday and Friday of this week. A reminder that the canteen will be closed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week also. The Canteen Manager will be back on Thursday and we will be open as normal from then.
We are currently working on staffing for next year and looking at class sizes. If you are expecting a change in your current schooling situation, please let us know so we can take it into consideration. Students have undertaken web preferencing, in most cases, for Years 11 and 12 next year. As soon as we can, we will let them know what their allocations will be.

As you would be aware, COVID restrictions in Term 1 meant that we were unable to hold our Swimming Carnival before the end of the pool season. We have rescheduled this event for Tuesday 22nd November (Week 6, Term 4).
The structure of the day will be:
8:30am-11am – Buses arrive at school, normal timetabled lessons until recess
11am – depart GHS to walk to the pool (some student/house leaders will go early to set up), time to get changed
11:30am-2:30pm – Swimming Carnival Program
2:30pm-3:00pm – Supervised free time
3:00pm – Pack up, changed and waiting for buses (students will be dismissed from the pool)
Parents/carers/family members welcome!
We would also appreciate volunteers for the canteen, BBQ and timing. Please contact the school if you are able to help ?
Please note: Small children will not be able to access the children’s pool.
What students will need:
- Bathers, towel (goggles/swim cap – optional)
- Hat, sunscreen, T-shirt with sleeves to wear when not in the pool
- Water bottle
- Lunch and snacks (or money for the BBQ/canteen)
This is a normal school day and attendance is expected. There will be a range of events where noodles and other floaties are used and jobs to help with for students who aren’t keen to swim. We are planning a fun day of teamwork and community!
Students are encouraged to bring floaty rings etc for the Swim Through – a fun event including all age groups to get as many laps as possible within 5 mins to earn extra points for your house!

Year 7A and 7B classes have focussed on Pop Art in Visual Art and they have developed skills in stencilling and screenprinting. This has culminated in their own printed canvas bags, each with their own design! Students were very persistent and hardworking throughout this unit and should be very proud.
Special shout-outs to Charlie, who created a complex design and problem-solved a lot. Also, to Mirra, who used a very delicate stencil and multiple colours in her design. Mia Duke was also exceptional in creating a sophisticated design.

AUSTDRIVE - YOUTH DEFENSIVE DRIVING
We are pleased to be offering AUSTDRIVE - Youth Defensive Driving session on Friday, 25th November 2022.
This is a vital session for our youth as they hold the highest crash rate than drivers of any other age and could be the difference in the outcome of any future road accidents so we would love to see as many of our Year 11 and 12 students doing it as possible.
We encourage you to RVSP sooner rather than later to secure your place!
Please RSVP by 28th October with a $50.00 deposit to secure your registration.
