Staff and students are preparing for Swimming Carnival next Tuesday and family and community members are invited to attend and cheer on our students. During nominations, it has been wonderful to see so many students nominating for events and increasing participation levels.
Year 12’s have completed their last exams and all assignments were due this week, so it is now time to wait for final results in December. We certainly hope they achieve their goals and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
The Year 7 – 11 students recently attended an anti-vaping session organised by Judy Crosby through aboriginal health. The workshop was very informative and students have commented they learned more about effects of vaping and were surprised at the advertising campaigns that were used to encourage vaping.
It was a pleasure to attend the Remembrance Day Ceremony as a whole school, with our students last week and to have a number of our students involved in the laying of the wreath and raising the flag.
Governing Council ratified the Dress Code policy last week after significant consultation with students. There are a number of alterations that have been made and this is attached to this newsletter. Order forms for the added garments will be available in the next couple of weeks once students and the Governing Council have finalised jacket details.

On the 11th of November the whole school walked to the memorial down the main street of Gladstone to pay tribute to those who lost their lives to fight in the war for us. Jaxon and I had the privilege of laying the wreath on behalf of the school in acknowledgment of this nation’s soldiers. Remembrance Day gives us the chance to think about those who unfortunately lost there lives.
Matilda Heinrich - Year 11
On November 11th, Gladstone High School journeyed down to the Gladstone Memorial to commemorate the soldiers who fought for our country in the world wars. We paid our respects to the fallen by laying a wreath and participating in a minute of silence on the 11th hour of the day. We were honoured to be invited to participate in the memorial, as it gives us the time to remember the brave soldiers who fought for our mighty country.
Jaxon Brand - Year 11
On Friday 11th November, I was given the honour of raising the Aboriginal flag to remember our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander fallen soldiers. As a young Aboriginal person this gave me great pride and I would like to thank the RSL for the inclusion in this memorial service.
Takeria Crosby-Woods - Year 11
On Monday the 14th of November, the Year 11 Hospitality students, along with Miss Edge and Mrs Seidel, braved an early morning for a day trip to Adelaide where they participated in a cake decorating course. This was run through Cake Trends by Diana Tindal, who has her own cake decorating business and is able to produce some amazing cakes of her own. Over the course of the day, we were exposed to Diana's special butter cream icing recipe and we worked with this to develop a range of basic piping techniques, which we applied to cup cakes. After a quick break for lunch, we then moved on to fondant skills, which we applied on cookies. At the end of the day, we packaged up our creations as if being sold professionally and transported them back to the Mid North. We all had a fantastic day together and learned a lot from the sessions. Everyone produced some beautiful cakes and they tasted delicious too. A huge thank you to Diana Tindal for having us and sharing all of her tips with us.
