PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Welcome back to the final term of 2016.
We are about to embark on event season as the end of the year rapidly approaches and before we do I would just like to highlight some of the major events that have occurred and are coming up.
Recently the Georgetown Community celebrated their school history with an amazing dinner and family day. I would like to acknowledge the work of our staff, students and parents in catering the dinner for 250 people! The feedback from those who attended was impressive – Well done to Derek Friedrichs and his students.

During the school holidays Jack Flavel, travelled to Launceston to compete in the Young Judges competitions at their Show. Jack was a finalist in this competition and was awarded the highest score for his oral presentation and handling of sheep. Jack’s family and GHS are extremely proud of his achievements in representing not only his community but the whole of South Australia.
Next week schools across the country will celebrate National Teachers Day on Friday October 28. This day is designed to recognise and promote the work of teachers in our community and to highlight the importance of education as a profession that should be valued in our community. Please take the opportunity to say thanks to one or more of our amazing teachers next week!
As we approach the end of Year 12 formal classes next week, please continue to encourage your students to be diligent in maintaining contact with their teachers through final assessments and exams.
Reminder Governing Council Meeting is Tuesday 25th October 7pm.
Continued thanks to all the parents who let us know by phone, text or email if their student will be absent. It is important that we maintain accurate records of student attendance both for the department but also to monitor your students’ learning. Accurate record keeping is only one aspect of the attendance policy – the important part relates to achievement. In this aspect of attendance there is only one avenue for improvement and that is increased attendance – please continue to support us by not scheduling non vital appointments or activities during school time.
We are currently tracking at 91% and the Department target is 93% so every day really does count!
