PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
PRESENTATION NIGHT
(Principal’s Speech from Presentation Night)
Good Evening Everyone
I would like to welcome you all here tonight, our special guests who are presenting, parents, families, friends, and staff welcome to the 2016 Presentation Night.
Tonight we recognise the successes of our schooling year, both academic and extra curricula and we will celebrate the completion of schooling for the Class of 2016.
Graduation is a significant rite of passage and a moment to be exceedingly proud of.
This evening we will present awards for;
- outstanding academic achievement
- Vocational Education and Training
- Sporting achievement
- attendance
- Leadership
- And service to the community
In 2017 at the first assembly of the year the DUX of the Class of 2016 will be presented as will the students who achieve Academic Excellence Awards in their year 12 results – which will be released next Tuesday!
I have had an amazing three terms as Principal this year and have really enjoyed learning about the rich history and tradition that is Gladstone High School.
As your Principal I have two main objectives:
Firstly – to provide the support, through structures, processes and people to help all our students achieve the very best they can and
Secondly - to instil in them the desire continue their learning journey as independent adults beyond school
It is at nights like this that as a community we can take time to reflect on the value and importance that education plays not in the lives of our children and young people but also in the vibrancy of the whole community.
I can think of very few things that bring me more joy than the look on a student’s face when they achieve something they have worked hard for, the light bulb moments when they realise they understand something or the pride they take in completing something for the first time, whether it is a maths equation or a piece of art.
I would like to acknowledge the role that parents and families also play in our school through;
- reinforcing the value of education at home
- helping with homework
- volunteering in the canteen or on excursion
- being a member of governing council
- or just by coming to nights like this!
I look forward to working with you all in the next five years as I continue as Principal and hope that together as a community we can continue to grow learning at Gladstone High School.
Tonight would not be possible without the work of many people – specifically the teachers who have worked tirelessly all year and the staff and student leaders who worked to put this program together.
So without further ado – let’s get this show on the road
Your MC’s for this evening are
Sharni Chapman, Jack Flavel, Doug Russell and Millie Smart .
Thank you and enjoy
