PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Partnerships in education are talked about frequently as one of the major drivers of successful student outcomes. Research abounds as to the importance of parent and community involvement in schools – many articles will site the improved wellbeing and academic outcomes for students when they have not only support from home, but active engagement in educational activities from their families.

The Twilight Swimming Carnival on Wednesday 15 February was certainly a well-attended community event. The benefits for our students are significant, team work, perseverance, resilience and perspective to name a few. The school staff also had a fabulous opportunity to meet with parents in a less formal setting than school, this can only help build greater trust and open communication. This in conjunction with the attendance of the Primary Schools and their staff added the extra dimension to make a fantastic community event.

Thank you to everyone who attended, I certainly had a great evening and enjoyed handing out ribbons to all the place winners.

Thursday 23 February is our Annual General Meeting of the GHS Governing Council. I am asking for parents who have an interest in participating to make the extra effort to attend this event. Representation from parents on the Governing Council is an extremely important and necessary aspect of effective school functioning. We have a number of vacancies for general membership that will benefit from your input. Gladstone High School belongs to the whole community and the whole community is needed to ensure we continue to provide quality educational services to your children.

I look forward to seeing many of you there

Regards
