PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
School Open Day season is upon us!
The purpose of Open Days is to promote your school to the local community and to encourage families to enrol for the following school year. This then begs the question – Why send your child to Gladstone High School?
Gladstone High School provides a high quality educational experience for all students and effectively caters for the full range of student pathways beyond school. GHS is a small close knit community, committed to providing a personalised educational journey for every individual young person.
Student results at GHS are outstanding; our students complete their SACE and enter into successful pathways beyond school either through university or employment and further training. Our students achieve results at or above the state Standard of Educational Achievement for the Australian Curriculum.
However, education is more than achievement.
Gladstone High School is a proud member of the public school sector.
We believe that inclusivity engenders the values in our students that will promote the skills and dispositions that our young people of the future require in a rapidly changing world.
Students are encouraged to look beyond their own belief systems and accept the views of others to create a diverse learning community that reflects Australia’s position in the global landscape. In essence, universal access promotes the core values of citizenship that “go beyond individual self-interest and contribute to the common good.”
Please come and join us on Tuesday 23rd May for a tour at 9:30am followed by morning tea and discover the answer to the question - Why send your child to Gladstone High School?

GOVERNING COUNCIL NEWS
The Gladstone High School Governing Council is a busy group with lots of discussion and decisions being made about the School.
We continue to work on improving the new bus zone, which will eventually be the main entrance to the school. We are currently petitioning the Northern Areas Council to assist us with making the area more appropriate for wet weather.
There will soon be a new school jumper available to replace the polar fleece jumper that is no longer being made. Whilst there will be no changes to the colours of the uniform we hope that this will provide parents and students with a more affordable option. The rugby tops will continue to be available also.
The Laura Folk Fair biscuit stall made a huge $1291 profit. A massive thank you to Merrilyn, Cathy and Kylie who coordinated this event, and to any parents who worked on the stall, baked or packed the biscuits. We are currently looking at options for our next fundraising event. Ideas are a recipe book made up of recipes the students have cooked, along with photos and comments by the students; a bonfire/bbq night; a Dinner under the Stars, possibly catered for by students; a movie night under the stars; and a quiz night. We are open to other suggestions and will be looking for volunteers to assist with the organisation and running of any events. All funds raised will go towards improving the education and aesthetics of the school. Please contact Kathryn (0438363123) or Brooke (0409096997) if you are interested in helping or have any other ideas.
Don’t forget our Principal’s Tour, next Tuesday 23rd May from 9:30-11am. Please encourage anyone who may be considering coming to GHS next year to attend. This is a great opportunity to promote our school.
Let’s make GHS great!
Cheers

AGRICULTURE BLOCK NEWS
The chickens at the Ag block have been split into two different sheds. They have been separated into young layers and older layers.
At the Ag block we have some sheep that roam the paddocks. They will be taken to the Adelaide show.
The goats at the Ag block will be shown at the Adelaide Show so some Year 9 students have been practising by leading them out of their shed and into one of the paddocks.
We now have four steers to present at the Adelaide Show. They are kept at the Ag block in their own yards. A radio has been playing near their yards so they get used to the sound of people’s voices.
