Principal’s Report

Welcome back all of our families to Term 3. I certainly hope you all enjoyed a chance to have a break from the routines of school. We have started the term with a few welcomes and announcements.

Firstly we welcome Luke Huiskamp to our staff for the next two terms. Luke will be teaching Year 9 and 10 Health and Physical Education, Year 8 and 9 Science and the SAASTA program to a small group of students as well as having a Year 11 Home Group.

This week we have hosted 6 pre-service teachers from the University of Adelaide. The students are all in their second year of study and here to get a country experience. From all accounts so far they are enjoying the opportunity.

We have also welcomed Luke Bartlett as a relief teacher. Luke will be here for 4 weeks covering a range of classes and teacher absences due to camps and excursions that will occur in the next few weeks. We have certainly appreciated being able to have the same person here for 4 weeks as this creates consistency and continuity for our students.

Sonia Pringle has been seconded to Risdon Park Primary School as the Principal for the next four weeks, however, she will continue to teach her Year 12 English students in their double lessons for this time. We would also like to congratulate Sonia on her appointment to Balaklava High School as Principal starting in 2019. I am sure she will enjoy the reduced travelling involved and the opportunity that leading a school provides.

For our Year 12 students this will be the term when timelines start to loom. I encourage them to make use of their teachers and the resources available to them, to make the most of their remaining time at Gladstone High School and aim to have no regrets at the end of the year.

Next week our Year 10 students will be participating in the Careers Camp to Adelaide and will have the chance to visit many different places of study and employment. Again I encourage the students to seize this opportunity and gather as much information as possible to help make informed decisions with regards to subjects and future plans.

It was a perfect day to play Hockey and the other team provided excellent competition. The game was against Mid North Christian College with everyone playing well. Unfortunately their team consisted of some very talented older boys and we went down 3-2. The score was 1-1 at full time, which was then followed by 1 on 1’s, Alice Jackson scored 1, however Mid North scored 2. Best Players for the games were Tilly Brock as goalie, Alice Jackson, Adam Jackson and Emily Smart. Well done to Nic, Dylan, Joel, and Jake who filled in even though they don’t normally play Hockey. A big thankyou to Barry Martin for driving the bus.
