Principal’s News
Congratulations to the Year 8 students on their organisation for the whole school assembly yesterday. It ran very smoothly and there were lots of reports from different students about what has been happening in the last few months.
We have some staffing changes that have occurred in the last couple of weeks, to announce. We congratulate and wish Renee Thamm all the best in her new position at Kadina Memorial School. Ms Jackie McAllister has accepted the position of Arts/Middle school teacher starting next year.
A reminder next Friday is a Student Free Day. Staff will spend the day working on developing the School’s Improvement plan and analysing data of students to influence planning for 2019.
Gladstone will be recognising Remembrance Day with a ceremony at the memorial, on Friday 9th November. All staff will attend the ceremony and we would be delighted if any students were able to attend and represent Gladstone High School. All students have designed a cross to represent a local person who was in World War 1 from their own town. These crosses will then be laid at the ceremony to form a very large cross.
The Year 12’s completed their last formal day of lessons last Thursday and celebrated with a breakfast for staff and Year 12 students on Friday. Although we farewelled them on their drive around the school oval we have still seen many back this week completing the last of their assignments or preparing for exams. Many photos of their finished products have been shared on Facebook and are well worth a look. Congratulations to the Year 12’s on a wonderful year.

Stage 2 News
Friday of Week 2 marked the last official day for our Year 12 students. The students celebrated this day with a staff and student breakfast. Over the next 3 weeks many of our students will return to school at different times to hand in final pieces of work and to sit exams. After the exam period we will not see many of them until Friday 7th December when we all gather with friends and family for the annual Year 12 Formal Parent Dinner, to formally acknowledge the Class of 2018 and those who have supported them throughout the year. The wider school community will have the opportunity to acknowledge these students at our Presentation Night held at the Gladstone High School Hall on Monday 10th December. On behalf of the whole school community I wish all our Year 12's the best of luck in finishing their secondary schooling and beginning the next stage of their lives.
Stage 2 Material Products
Stage 2 Material Products, Steel Framed Canopy and Dog Box. The frame was canvassed professionally and zips up tight. Well done Nathan.

Stage 2 Material Products, Jake Clements designed and built his custom ATV trailer for farm use. Made from steel tube and aluminium plate, it features a walking suspension system that rolls over bumps without bouncing, keeping the trailer level. Well done Jake.

Ben Treasure and his Entertainment Centre. Ben designed and built the unit using Kerf cuts to create a unique retro style. The edges are protected and complimented with jarrah strips. The handles are handmade and finished with burnt linseed oil. One word…Patience! Well done Ben.

Rotary Youth Exchange
Rotary Youth Exchange invites kind and caring Host Families within the community to assist local Rotary Clubs offer an outstanding exchange program to young people from all over the World.
A Host Family is a vital part of this cultural and educational exchange and typically hosts a student on a voluntary basis for a period of between 10 to 16 weeks. In doing so, a Host family officially becomes a Friend of Rotary International. The Host Family plays an integral role in offering the student the experience of a new culture and language, whilst at the same time learning itself about a different culture from a young leader. It is a direct window to the world for all members of a Host family.
You not only share a young person’s hopes and dreams, but more importantly, you make those dreams possible. Hosting is the beginning of a lifelong friendship and connection with a student and family overseas. Whilst it can be challenging to help a young person transition to a new culture and ease into the surroundings, it is always fun and the rewards are immeasurable.
Host Families in the Rotary Youth Exchange program come in many shapes and sizes! Young children, older children, and no children at all, extended families and older generations – all have been successful in hosting exchange students.
Please consider this amazing and rewarding opportunity now. Enquiries are most welcome.

Applicants sought for Rotary Youth Exchange
To have the opportunity to study abroad is a life-changing experience. Rotary youth exchange provides this opportunity.
If you are in year 9, 10 or 11 an opportunity for a Rotary exchange in 2020 is possible. Places are likely to be available in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Japan, Taiwan and Brazil.
The Rotary exchange program provides a unique opportunity for you to experience first hand the culture of a new country, to learn a new language and gain in your personal development. The many friendships that you make will be both lifelong and not just restricted to your host country.
Students who participate learn skills that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Once they have finished their education to seek employment, there is no doubt that employers will look favorably upon those who have travelled with such a program.
Students are selected on application and after a personal interview. Applications close April 30th.
