Principal’s News
The 2019 school year has started smoothly and it is pleasing to see such enthusiasm from so many students. A very warm welcome to all of our Year 8 students and also to Reece (Yr 10), Kiara, Talia, Connor, Ayzia (Yr 11) and Tanisha (Yr 12).
Welcome also to our new staff, many of whom are included in further detail in the newsletter: Mr Luke Bartlett (Yr 9-12 HPE), Miss Eden Caputo (Yr 8-9 HPE, Yr 10-12 English), Miss Jacqui Edge (Yr 9-11 English, Yr 11-12 Food and Hospitality), Miss Megan Mackowiak (Yr 8-10 Digital Technologies, Yr 11-12 Creative Arts, Photography and Research Project), Miss Jackie McAllister (Yr 8-12 Visual Arts, Yr 8 Science), Mr Tyler Norton (Yr 10 SASSTA, HASS and PLP), Mrs Rachel Wells (Yr 8-9 Ag, and HASS, Yr 9 Science, Yr 8 English), Mrs Mandy Harness (SSO) and Mr Terry Zohs (Farm Manager).
Congratulations to our Year 12 students from 2018 on their outstanding results and achievements. It was very rewarding to see all of our Year 12’s complete their SACE. A special mention to our DUX for 2018, Patrick Klingner for his ATAR of 92.4 closely followed by Alice Jackson with an ATAR of 92.00. It was also pleasing to see that 63% of our Stage 2 grades were A’s and B’s, an excellent reflection on the work by both students and staff.
The calendar is already quite full for Term 1 with House and Student Leader elections happening this week, nominations for Swimming Carnival next week followed by an Induction and Dux assembly next Friday. We are hoping to be able to inform our Student and House Leaders if they are successful by Friday afternoon this week. All parents and friends are invited to attend the assembly starting at 9.50am.
Swimming Carnival is also fast approaching on 13th February. Volunteers on the day would be appreciated with the competition starting at 3pm.
A reminder also all students to return consent forms promptly to ensure continued access to the internet.

My name is Rachel Wells and I'm excited to be teaching at Gladstone High School this year. I studied teaching externally through the University of New England between 2013 and 2016 and have been relief teaching in the Southern Suburbs of Adelaide since graduating in October 2016. I will be teaching Year 8 and 9 Agriculture and HASS, Year 8 English and Year 9 Science as well as having a Year 8 Home Group. I have a husband named Scott and three children named Lucy, Charlie and Samuel who are attending Gladstone Primary School. While Gladstone is very different to our home in Aldinga Beach, we are so far loving the small country town and exploring the local area. |
|
I recently completed a Master of Education at Flinders University and returned to the Mid North region. I have been fortunate enough to gain a position at Gladstone High School, teaching a variety of Year 10 subjects. I look forward to working with both the school and wider community. |
|
My name is Jackie McAllister and I will be teaching Year 8-12 Art and Junior Science, though I'm biology trained. I cannot wait to share my passion for learning, art and everything in between with students at Gladstone HS. I particularly enjoy working with printmaking, inks, clay, textiles and paint and am eager to extend students in art opportunities beyond the classroom. In Science I hope to bring in professionals within the industry to speak to students, and to engage my classes in hands on learning activities. |

Hi all, I’m Jacqui Edge, the new Senior School Coordinator. I have come from Bordertown High School in the state’s south east, and I taught there for 6 years. I also spent a couple of years living and working up in Townsville in North Queensland, where I taught at a number of different schools. I’m really excited to be starting my new role at Gladstone High School and I’ll be teaching Home Ec. and English. I am looking forward to becoming involved in the community, particularly through sport. |

I have taught in 2 separate schools within Adelaide. This is both my first country posting and first time living away from my home town but I do still go for the Adelaide Crows Football team. |

Hi, my name is Eden Caputo (Miss Caputo). This year, I will be teaching English (Yr. 10 and Yr. 12) and Physical Education (Yr. 8 and Yr. 9) I was born and raised in Port Pirie and this is my first year teaching after studying at Flinders University. Have your say on school bus services in
regional South Australia
If you are using the government school bus service or you have an opinion about how the services work, then you will be interested in the review of regional South Australian government school bus services.
This review is looking at what options and implications there are for providing all students, regardless of whether they attend a government school or non-government school, a place on the school bus and for the bus to start making stops outside its normal route. The review is also looking at how moving the responsibility for school buses from the Department for Education to the Department for Planning, Transport and Infrastructure might make services more efficient, and how buses could be available for community use.
Have your say by providing your comments through the YourSAY website. You can make comments from 21 January 2019 to 15 February 2019.
Help shape the future of this important regional service which currently transports more than 14,600 students across more than 430 school bus routes across regional South Australia.Community News
