Care packages
In the last few weeks it has been wonderful to receive letters back from a number of recipients of the care packages sent by the Year 10 Food and Hospitality class last year. This was a great initiative by Tamisha Roberts and the students and it was lovely to hear how much they were appreciated.
AGM Reminder
A reminder next Monday night is the Governing Council Annual General Meeting starting at 7pm. We welcome as many parents as possible to the meeting, simply to show your support of the school.
Swimming Carnival
Despite the cool conditions the Swimming Carnival was a huge success last night, with many students braving the weather to swim for House points. Congratulations to all Cup winners and to Sullivan on the win. More importantly though, congratulations to all of the students who participated on the evening to ensure the event continues to be a highlight of the school calendar. It was great to have the Year 9’s and their families hosting the BBQ as a fundraiser for the Ski Trip later in the year. We sincerely hope they will be able to offer their services again at Sports Day and reduce the cost for the Ski Trip.
Thank you to all of the parents and community members for their help in timing during the evening.
MNSEC Swimming
Congratulations to all of the swimmers who have now been selected for the MNSEC team for next Tuesday evening at Booleroo Centre. It is a great honour to represent the school and I look forward to seeing our team give it their best effort. Family and community support helps to encourage our swimmers on the night.
Sports Day
As soon as Swimming Carnival finishes the focus is now onto Sports Day. Again family and community support is needed to run all of the events. Students have already been practicing for particular events as part of their PE lessons.
Staffing
Congratulations to Julia Murrie who has won a teaching position in Tasmania starting in Term 2. Whilst we are disappointed to lose such a valuable member of our staff we wish her all the best in her new role.
Dux and Induction Assembly
I would like to formally acknowledge the work of our Year 12 Student Leaders in coordinating and running the Dux and Induction Assembly last Friday. Patrick Klingner was recognised as our DUX of 2018 and he provided some very wise and reassuring words on his experiences of Year 12. We also presented our Student Leaders and House Captains for 2019. The Year 8 Student Leaders will be elected during the Year 8 camp. Congratulations to all of our leaders.

Care Packages
Last year, as part of the Year 10 Home Economics curriculum students created delicious homemade Christmas treats. The treats were to be included in ‘Care Packages’ for Australian Soldiers currently deployed overseas over the Christmas and New Year period. Each student participated in making homemade goodies such as meringues, shortbread, honey biscuits, ANZAC biscuits, nuts and bolts and choc chip cookies. Each student also wrote a letter to a soldier wishing them a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and a safe return.
I am pleased to write that we have had a number of responses to the students letters with the soldiers expressing great thanks for the gifts, although they didn't last long, the homemade goodies were enjoyed by all.
With the success of this assignment I look forward to being able to make care packages for soldiers again later this year as part of the Year 10 curriculum, with the aim of making more packages and getting more people involved in such a great project.
Included in the newsletter are a couple of letters students received from soldiers serving overseas.
