The Stage 1 Food and Hospitality students worked individually to investigate historical and contemporary trends of creating cakes for special occasions. Students identified changing trends, cake types and methods of cooking cakes and decoration techniques using a range of utensils and ingredients. Each student worked individually to design, create and produce a cake which showcased their skills to make a cake of their choice. Students learnt the fundamental techniques for baking, and used this knowledge to make a final decision. Class time was spent trialling different techniques and preparing various components that utilised a variety of technologies and ingredients. Each student put a number of hours into each cake and the development of their individual skills throughout the practical was great to see. The girls should be really proud of all that they have achieved throughout this topic.
