Friday 5^th March was the 2021 Gladstone High School Athletics Carnival. We were very lucky to have perfect weather for the event and the day was a lot of fun. It is always great to see our students pushing themselves to achieve their potential and support their houses – not to mention some of colourful the outfits! Participation across all houses and the Primary Schools was fantastic, with many students stepping in to fill events when needed.

Days like the Athletics Carnival can’t run without lots of help. I would like to offer a huge thank you to the GHS staff as well as the teachers and SSOs from the primary schools who attended. We also had parents helping out with raking and measuring, setting up hurdles and in the canteen which Suzy very much appreciated!

There were many highlights of the day from students:

• Having fun
• Running the whole race!
• Achieving a Personal Best or reaching a goal
• Remembering to go to all of their events!
• Dressing up
• Having a nap

The inclusion of Corner Spry as an additional team game added to the excitement of the day. With our school context changing slightly next year as we welcome Year 7 students to the GHS student body, there will also be some changes to our carnivals. We are looking forward to getting some feedback from students, staff and families to use this as an opportunity to improve the event for everyone.
