DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY
Year 8
In Design and Technology this term Year 8 students are developing their basic skills by building a mini toolbox from plywood. Students learn how to accurately measure and cut pieces so that they fit together accurately. They also use CAD software to create a 3Dmodel of their project.
Year 9
Students are taking on a tricky challenge to construct a Storage Stool. The stool has many parts all of which need to be very carefully cut and fitted together to ensure that the stool is strong enough to sit on. Students follow a design but can be creative by using timber off cuts to design their own top. They also will be modelling their products using CAD.
Year 11
Students complete skills tasks as part of their SACE assessment before beginning their major product. Woodwork students have made small boxes with complex joints and their own design of lid while Metalwork students have made “Rocket Stoves” which are mini portable cookers. Have each made their own modifications to the basic design.
Year 12
Students are at the critical stage of their SACE with only a few weeks remaining to complete their projects and folios. There are some very challenging and unique designs taking shape and while none are quite finished as yet we look forward to seeing the completed products over the next few weeks. Only Austin has completed his arbor which he will give to his grandmother as a gift. The design incorporates images of Dutch windmills and tulips which reflect her home country Holland.
