FAST 5 NETBALL

On the 16th of September the Year 10 Physical Education class hosted and participated in the MNSEC Fast 5 Netball competition. Fast 5 netball is a modified version of netball that has 5 players in total including two attacking players, two defending players and one Center position. The game has also been modified so that there is a 1-point, 2-point and 3-point scoring zones, as well as teams having the ability to select a power play that doubles their score for that selected half.

Participating in this event allowed the students to test their netball skills against other schools within MNSEC. Gladstone High School entered 3 teams into the competition and were successful with all teams finishing in the top 3 of their divisions. In division 2 Gladstone High School secured 2nd and 3rd, and in division 1, Gladstone came 2nd by a narrow margin of one win.

All students showed a balanced level of sportsmanship and competitiveness. Fortunately do to lack of female Year 10 students, we were able to provide some of the Year 8 and 9 girls with an opportunity to participate in the event. These students held their own while participating at this level and show promise for future competitions. Overall, all students enjoyed the day and were given the opportunity to further develop their skills in a competitive game environment.

A special thank you to Ms Davis, Ms Foulis, Mr Bartlett and Mr Martin for organising the meat, bread and finance required to implement the BBQ on the day. We also acknowledge and thank all teachers and Year 11 and 12 students who volunteered their time to assist with umpiring. Finally, thank you to Amanda Bowman for planning and implementing this successful MNSEC sporting event.
