SCHOOL MERINO COMPETITION

The Sheep Team have spent alot of time preparing for the Schools Merino Wether Competition. This competition was held on the 8th of September at the Wayville Showgrounds in Adelaide. Here students had to prepare and present their sheep for showing and present themselves in regards to appearance and knowledge on the sheep. Students had to compete in multiple competitions throughout the day.

Team 1 made it to the top 15 for the best presented sheep, however they did not place in the final 8. Students Chad Flavel and Connor Hoskin were selected for the handler’s competition, being selected out of 300 students as being one of the top 18 handlers for the day, unfortunately they did not place in the top 5. At the conclusion of the day, prizes were given out for competitions that had been run throughout the day. Here students placed 2nd in the Best Presented School Competition, this was judged on the students’ knowledge on their sheep, teamwork in looking after the animals throughout the day and how they presented themselves in terms of clothing and attitude. They also placed 4th in the Most Valuable Fleece with Team 2.

In addition to the showing of the wethers, students also had to submit a fleece from last year’s leftover sheep that didn’t attend the show into a School Wool Competition. Here students had to analyse and then calculate the most valuable fleece to send in. In this competition we placed 1st in our Zone 2a (Mid North and Northern Yorkes), however we did not win the overall Zone 2 (Northern and Yorke Peninsula), placing behind Clare who won the overall competition.
