YR.10 OUTDOOR ED SAILING
On the 13th of October the year 10 outdoor Ed class went on a 2-day sailing trip to Port Augusta aquatics centre to learn how to sail and apply our planning and preparation skills (Mr. Bartlett forgot the Trangia’s). We had strong winds throughout both days and rain on the second day. When we arrived at the grounds we were greeted by Simon, Steve and Emily the instructors that would teach us everything we need to know to be able to set sailing. After we were taught about all the parts to the sail boat and what to do and what not to do, we went out to the shoreline and were showed how to set up the sailing boat. Due to the weather throughout both days when we were to set up the sail boat before going out we reefed the mainsail and shortened the jib because the wind was to strong we would’ve capsized.
The most enjoyable part of the trip was being on the water and catching speed and towards the end of the trip we did a single file line of all the boats where we sailed to the bridge and back. The most challenging part of the trip was when there was no wind meaning we wouldn’t move and was also traveling into the wind. Overall the experience was educational and fun.
