Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is acknowledged annually on 26th May with National SORRY day recognising Our Stolen Generation- all our learners in each learning area had discussions and participated in creating the Native Hibiscus which is the floral emblem of the Stolen Generation.
We then put our collected Hibiscus Flowers on a garland and displayed them in the courtyard. Students were able to see their flowers on the garland.
On Monday we had a flag raising ceremony to recognise the ongoing trauma caused by generations of people stolen from their families as a result of government policy. This was a solemn occasion where the whole school community gathered to acknowledge this.
As we continue our journey of Reconciliation at Gladstone High School, resources were available to yarn about the theme which is NOW MORE THAN EVER and significant dates which highlights important events in our shared history.
A small group of students travelled into Port Pirie Festival Centre for the annual Nunga Screening. This was a showcase of films with an Indigenous creator or with an Indigenous focus. It was also an opportunity for our students to connect with each other outside of the classroom environment.
