YEAR 8 GEOGRAPHY
In Year 8 Geography we are learning about mapping skills, the students were practising these by measuring and drawing a map of our classroom to scale.
Bushwalking
The Year 8 students participated in an all-day bushwalking excursion, on Thursday 2nd of July.
In previous classes leading up to the excursion, the students learnt about the health and safety aspects of bushwalking, as part of the Health Curriculum. They gained understanding of the specific foods required to eat on a bushwalk and why these were beneficial to their diet and energy levels. They also built knowledge on first aid and safety that may be necessary when undertaking a bushwalk.
On the day, the students partook in a 10km walk return, to the Sugar Gum Lookout, where they were able to explore the view of the hills and learn about the history of the Flinders Ranges. This was a moderate, inclined hike that challenged the students. Their walk ended at the Mambray Creek, where they spent time exploring the beautiful nature, wild life and running water.
The students made the day enjoyable, hanging out with their friends and getting to know students and teachers that they may not typically interact with. The walk allowed all students to venture out of their comfort zones and share their previously learnt knowledge.

Open Netball Carnival
Open girls (Year 10, 11, 12) competed in a netball carnival at Gladstone Stadium on Wednesday 22nd of July. Teams involved included Booleroo, Jamestown, Mid North Christian College and our two teams at Gladstone. The teams played 4 games with 15 minute halves.

Jamestown were undefeated for the day, coming through with the win overall. Gladstone Team 1 won 3 games, however losing their 4th game to Jamestown. All girls played extremely well on the day, showing great enthusiasm, teamwork and respect for not only their own team members, but also the opposition.
Thank you to all the girls for giving it a go, trying your hardest and making the day such an enjoyable one.

RECONCILIATION WEEK
As part of our Reconciliation journey at Gladstone High School we have shared information surrounding significant events in History. Students participated in flower making for the Stolen Generation, short clips in Home Group about generational trauma, listened to music from Aboriginal artists. Week 10 saw students and staff walk together as part of the 20th Anniversary of the People’s Walk and ended the term with a BBQ.
We hope with the easing of restrictions we can extend on more cultural activities for Term 3, so watch this space!
MNSEC formal has been rescheduled for the Year 12’s and will be held on Friday the 21st August. Gladstone High School are fortunate to be hosting this year.
We are looking for any donations of black and white themed decorations with Gold and Silver also welcome. Decorations can be returned if desired.
If you have any decorations you are willing to donate/ lend, could you please drop these into the Front Office by the end of week 4 (Friday 14th August).

Bundaleer Motorcycle Club
Hello Everyone,
This is our first come and try day, so everyone is welcome. Parents and kids can ride together!
We are holding a family juniors/ seniors come and ride fun day on Sunday 9th Aug 2020.
Venue: Sim Sparks, 11 km East of Jamestown on the Whyte Yarcowie road, signs to be erected.

9:00 - 9:30am registration.
Riding starts at 10:00 am.
Cost: Under 15’s, $5.
Seniors $30, club members $20 (to cover one day insurance).
3 natural terrain enduro tracks.

- 80/90/125 cc junior track.
- Larger bikes and seniors on the senior track.

Junior trainings to commence for Primary age players
4:30 pm at Laura courts for girls in years 2-7 inclusive
5:30 pm at Laura for girls in High School
Cost: $10
5 weeks only, in the lead up to the Orroroo Junior Netball Carnival on Saturday Aug 22nd
Girls to bring own water bottle and arrive no more than 5mins prior to the start of their training time
Primary aged players to have a responsible adult remain at the courts whilst they train, but the adult is to remain in their car whilst training is on
Toilets not available at the complex, public toilets to be used if necessary
If unwell, please remain at home
Hand sanitizer will be available for players to use before and during trainings
